This is where we can discuss porn... I'll start with this: Ron Jeremy (the notorious "Hedgehog") debated the XXX Church (xxxchurch.com) at the University of Cincinnati. The Cincinnati Enquirer covered the story. Jeremy will allegedly also make an appearance at the Red Cheetah bar in Cincinnati this Saturday. news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060511/NEWS01/605110359/-1/rssWhat do you think about what each person had to say? What are your perspectives on porn?

I wish I would have known about the debate because I would have come to listen. Anyways, I don't think pornography in its theory is bad, it allows people to watch fantasies or even curiousities in "real" view. I do think it can be empowering in some of its instanties, such as one overcoming their fear of seeing sexual acts or even if one is a willing participate in the acts. I do think it can be bad if shown say to military soliders before they raid a city or something. I do believe that some of the smuttier things should be lock away but that is just because I don't care for them.

This may sound silly, but what the hell.
One of my many concerns with porn is this whole notion of "gateway pornography." Now bear with me. I feel that in this global age of information, people often start out with just your usual soft core, baby stuff. But, because of our wonderful human curiosity, it can lead to more serious-severe-oppressive forms of pornography. Sex, like drugs and videogames (all of which I enjoy thoroughly) has a way of requiring greater and greater challenges, extremes, and experimentation. The first time you try handcuffs can be exhilirating, but can become boring over time. Where is the limit? Fantasies on the screen could be potentially harmless, but in the bedroom...I'm not sure most people know when it's appropriate to stop. Now I sound like a moralist, but it easy even for conscious feminists to find themselves in positions that are demeaning and lead to a hyper-sexualized performance in the bedroom. But performance for who?
Perhaps, I'm losing you here. Anytime some guy comes along preaching for open sexuality and experimentation, I have to ask the question...who benefits? In our society, even just here in cincinnati, I'm not convinced that this isn't just another ploy to disadvantage women and demand greater objectification of women. Not only do women have to follow some beauty ideal, but now there are pressures on what kinds of fantasies they can embody.
Because ultimately, the question is whose fantasies are being explored in the porn industry? I'd say it's primarily a male-driven industry.
That's not to say there aren't any female pioneers out there. But i'd like to see some pro-woman porn, i mean real female fantasies outside of mere performance and self-objectification in the male gaze.
What would that look like?

elyse's passion in northside carries some of those women pioneers...i've never seen em, but now i feel like i want to...i'm going to have to take a trip to see elyse to see what they're all about.
did anyone see jeremy? i find this debate to be wildly amusing, but i'm not convinced jeremy had good arguments...i think this is brilliant publicity for the xxx church though...
ONE of the things that was missing in most hetero-male centered porn i grew up with was figuring out with the woman how to give her the big o. it would've been nice to know that it was acceptable to guide hands, ask for things, etc. i always thought it was all about the guy's big o...so...that made a big difference in the way i did things.
