In Luciana Parisi's book: "Abstract Sex: Philosophy, Bio-technology and the Mutations of Desire", the author makes claims about the changing nature of sex:
- the advances currently being made in the field of cloning will soon make cloning more effective then natural sexual reproduction. Today we already have numerous forms of "sexual reproduction" that do not directly involve the coming together of two fleshy bodies (ie: in-vitro fertilization, sperm banks and self-insemination).
What do cloning and artifical insemination mean for the future of motherhood? Is motherhood increasingly becoming separated from marriage or partnership? Is this liberating for women?
Also, with the current "trend" among young celebrity women of adopting children before marriage, will this have a direct impact on young women today? Is adopting a child a "trend"?
How do all these experiences change the experience and meaning of motherhood?

My perception is that the future of motherhood is secure. There are too many politicans, conservatives, etc to allow cloning or a.i. to hamper that. I do believe however that insemination is being slowed, by new FDA regulations for possible donors so maybe that will not be an option. I do however think that it is a good thing that motherhood is becoming more separated from the idea of marriage (not sure on partnership, but at this point will include), there are many women that do not have ANY help from the men that is impregnating them so it is in a way a empowerment to know that women can and will do motherhood alone. I think the adoption "trend" is good, if the celebrities were adopting more children from the United States. I feel like they forgot there are alone, hurt, and needed to be love from the US as well as the rest of the world.
